Art: my saving grace

First off, how’s it going for you? I must say, I’m glad I started this blog. While I do showcase work mostly from my sketchbook here, I just needed another escape from the news, to share my observations, and meet up with anonymous folk to shuck and jive. That’s it. You’re free to buy art from me too, okay? It’s not ALL about me just running my mouth. Now that I’ve cleared the air with that…

To get to the nitty and gritty of my conversation with you today, I must dive further into my art no matter where I am. I don’t want to be all the way transparent with you at the moment. Or rather, let me skim over this self-inflicted situation I’ve roped myself in and tell you that I need to mind my business and leave other people’s alone. While “the situation” wasn’t my initiation, I do take full responsibility for my part. That being said, I’m declaring a place to hone down where my mouth won’t be running.

I did a big show in New York two years ago. The booth next to me was occupied by a graffiti artist whose path crossed with Jean Michel Basquiat back in the day. This guy did some time, by the way, for some random misdeeds, to put it nicely. We talked quite a bit. He even bought me lunch with the illegal money he made. It didn’t make the food taste any different. Tasted the same as any other good meal.

Well, the guy goes on to tell about the time he did and how he got himself together, that art basically saved his life. I really love a comeback story, people. I do. I can’t help it, I’m an underdog fan.

In summary, I need my art to do for me what it did for him, when I’m on these people’s job, okay? I’m typically a keen observer of people but I certainly missed something this go ’round. I’m not proud of it but since art is kind of a solo act, it should save the wagging tongue that got away from me.

I ask that you come closer and gather around, please. If anybody has oil of any type, put a dab on my forehead. May I be renewed and bring refreshing, bold colors to your life while staying afar from petty conversations.

Amen.

  1. I know I’ve said this before, but you crack me up. I was feeling a bit down today, but reading about how you ate with a former criminal’s money and the food didn’t taste any different really lifted my spirits and literally made me laugh out loud.
